Goode Ski Technologies Internship
Internship Supervisor: Dave Goode- President, CEO and Founder
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1: On January 28 I will travel to Denver Colorado to participate in the Snow Sports Industries of America (SIA) trade show for Goode. I will over see meetings and customer interactions.
Objective: I am participating in this trade show to see how sales are handled on a many different scales. There will be two large players involved in this process; large corporations such as Vail Resorts and small family owned shops around the country. My objective in these interactions is to see how the different markets handle these sales.
Objective: The second reason for attending this trade show is to see how they are conducted from an exhibitor standpoint. I have been to the OR trade show to see products and walk around but I was not apart of a booth. This will give me an idea for how exhibitors plan for the years ahead of time and where their innovations are heading.
Goal 2: Learn and implement 5’s Lean Manufacturing into our everyday plant operations.
Objective: Currently Dave is not satisfied with plant operations; he feels that there could be much more organization within the factory to make the processes more efficient. He has tasked me to write up a plan for the plant and implement this plan using 5’s lean manufacturing techniques. Currently the plant processes are producing average products for customers where his target market is expecting an excellent performance product; he believes that this starts and ends with a better procedure.
Objective: The process of 5’s and lean manufacturing can be brought into any workspace. This does not only apply to factory settings; it can apply to everyday life or a small cubical. Having an experience of implementing these techniques will help me excel in my career ahead of me.
Goal 3: Marketing/ branding for one of Goodes product lines. We are still working on the details of which product and what type of branding or marketing we would like to do but it could possibly be the new custom graphics for their water ski accessories line.
Objective: Start a marketing campaign that will also brand Goode into the custom industry. Daves newest image of the company is to push towards custom graphics for every one of his products from ski poles to waterski carrying bags. There is a huge potential in the market for custom graphics and there is an upside to doing this both for the customer but also for the company. Working with Dave and his current marketing personnel we will create a strategy of how to market / brand the company.
Objective: The main objective for me as a student learning how to brand is learning the process so that I am able to take this experience into my professional career. Branding can make or break a company within the skiing industry and many companies do this through numerous avenues. Some of these avenues are tough to get into because of the company size but for the custom branding we are looking to do we do not need these avenues to be successful.
Goal 4: If we are able to fit in customer service aspects of the company into my internship this would be a great learning experience.
Objective: This would teach me how a company works from a customer’s point of view. Having some knowledge of what a customer expects from the company can open my view of how things are run throughout the company. The job of customer service deals with every avenue of the company, which would round out the internship with an overall aspect of the company. A lot of what is done within customer service is behind the scenes and is overlooked by higher positions but if they were not there to complete the task at hand the company could fail.
